Ellen Berge, 82, of Decorah, Died Monday, Nov 17, 2003 at the Oneota Care Facility in Decorah, following a short illness. Funeral services were held at 10:30 am Friday, Nov 21, at Glenwood Lutheran Chruch, rural Decorah, with Rev Susan Debner officiating.
Connie Bolson was organist and soloist Iona Crawford sang "What a Friend We Have in Jesus." Congregational hymns were "Amazing Grace," and "How Great Thou Art."
Casketbearers were Jim Juve, John Juve, Rob Juve, Dick Juve and Bill Keefe. Interment was in Glenwood East Cemetery, Decorah. Schluter-Balik Funeral Home, Decorah, handled arrangements.
Ellen (Keefe) Berge was born April 6, 1921, the daughter of Richard A and Grace (Headington) Keefe in a log home in Glenwood Township, rural Decorah. She attended country school in a school made of logs and worked on the family farm. She married Walter G Berge on Sep 21, 1949 at the Parsonage at the Glenwood Lutheran Church, rural Decorah.
Ellen Berge was a talented floral designer who worked at the Decorah Greenhouse from 1960 to 1985. She was a wonderful drawer and painter, and loved flowers and her dog "Tanner."
Survivors inclued her son Mark Berge and wife Kristi; one granddaughter; two great grandsons; one sister, Agnes Forde, all of Decorah and several nieces and nephews.
Ellen Berge was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Grace Keefe; her husband Walter Berge; two sisters Catherine Keefe and Hattie Juve; two brothers Leonard and Lester Keefe.
