Our Sweetheart, Dad, Grandpa, Friend, Leader, Mentor, Philanthropist, and the Greatest Man in the World, passed away on December 1, 2007, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Syracuse, NY, from complications of acute respiratory distress syndrome. Frank and his wife, Patricia, moved from the West to Syracuse in the spring of 2001. He served as chief executive officer of Laboratory Alliance of Central New York, LLC, where he completely immersed himself in their success and the success of the community. In six years prior to joining the company, he worked as an executive in healthcare, consulting for hospitals and independent laboratories across the U.S. and internationally. Prior to that, he was president/CEO of the Pathology Medical Laboratories/Scripps Healthcare in LaJolla, CA. Between 1983 to 1990, he was a founding member and executive VP of business operations at ARUP Laboratories (Salt Lake City, UT), where he had responsibility for growing the business and establishing alliances. Before joining ARUP, Frank was the youngest VP of a SmithKline laboratory based in Los Angeles. He held an MS in medical technology from California State University and an MBA from Westminster College in Salt Lake City. Frank was a graduate of the executive management programs from the Stanford University Business School and the Peter F. Drucker Graduate School of Business in California. While CEO of Laboratory Alliance he served as chairman of the board of directors of the American Heart Association - Northeast Affiliate, Syracuse Metro Region. Frank also sat on the board of directors of the Metropolitan Development Association of Syracuse and was a member of the Healthcare Advisory Council of former NYS Assemblyman Jeff Brown. He was involved in fund-raising for the Ronald McDonald House. Frank recently served as chair of the 2007 Francis House fundraiser, "There's No Place Like Home," held in October at the NYS Fairgrounds. He was a member of the Clinical Laboratory Management Association (CLMA), the American Association of Clinical Chemistry (AACC), the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE), the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), the Drug Information Association (DIA), MedTech and the New York Biotechnology Association (NYBA). Frank was a devoted family man; family came first in everything he did. He was so proud of his wife, daughters and grandchildren, which showed in so many ways. He loved to fish and looked forward to every trip with his friends, family or the grandchildren, especially if he could take out his motorhome. He loved his motorhome. Grandpa loved to take the kids to the airport to watch the planes and listen to the air traffic controllers. Before each trip it was tradition to stop at the Seven-11 to stock up on the junk food. He enjoyed doing projects with the kids, from science experiments to building all kinds of stuff. He loved having his family all together and would always find a way for us to meet. We have all learned so much from his example. He is leaving such a hole in our lives. We will miss him so much. Frank is survived by his lifelong girlfriend and wife, Patricia. He put her on a pedestal and adored everything about her. His daughters were his pride and joy: Theresa Steadman (Salt Lake City), Denise Tucker (Salt Lake City) and Cheryl Lovelace (Maryland). He loved and treated his sons-in-law as his own: Larry Tucker and Richard Lovelace. He loved and cherished his grandchildren dearly: Andrew, Aaron, Skylar, Cole, Alexis, Kade and Adriana. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon on Saturday, December 8, in St. Francis Xavier Church in Kearns, Utah, with burial to follow in Utah. Calling hours are today (Tuesday) from 3 to 6 p.m. at Maurer Funeral Home Moyers Corners, 3541 Rt. 31, Baldwinsville. Prayer service at 6 p.m. following the calling hours. Contributions, in lieu of flowers, may be made in his memory to Francis House, 108 Michaels Ave., Syracuse, NY 13208.
