Funeral services were held here Friday afternoon, January 2, at the family home for Mrs. William Bateman who passed away December 31(1930) following an illness of seven months duration at the age of 71 years. Margaret Anna Kearns, the daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth Kearns, was born (Sept. 25, 1859) near Springville and later moved with her parents to a farm five miles southwest of Central city where she spent her youth.
October 25, 1877, she was united in marriage to William H. Bateman, who preceded her in death four years ago, and to this union eleven children were born, two having died in infancy, and Marguerite Bateman Herzberger passing away in 1922. Besides her children, Mrs. Chas. Soesbe, Mrs. Arthur Hutchins, Mrs. Nettie Gilchrist of Central City, Jack Bateman, Mrs. Max DuBois of Winthrop, Glen Bateman of Lancaster, Wisconsin, and Mrs. David Hyde of Walker, she leaves five brothers and two sisters, John, Ira, Jim and Mrs. Susie Wilson of California, Will of Nebraska, Milo at Brandon, Frank in Illinois, Mary of Waubeak, and Thomas A. of this place, 19 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Bateman was a member of the Christian church here until its discontinued service. Since then she has been a member of the Good Will Sunday school class of the Baptist church, was a member of the local Good Will Rebekah lodge, the W.R.C. and the Queen Esther chapter O. E. S of Boulder, Colorado. The Rev. Geo. W. I. and Mrs. Self sang two numbers during the brief service conducted by the Rev. C. Finley Stratton, pastor of the Federated church of this place. Burial was made in Mt. Clark cemetery.
