Wife of William Henry Boyd. Daughter of George W. Kays and Laura Evelyn Shields

Chariton, Iowa
Tuesday, March 11, 1947

Bertha L. Kays, daughter of George and Laura Kays, was born in Putnam county, Illinois, January 27, 1875 and departed this life at her home in Chariton, Wednesday, March 5, at the age of 72 years, 1 month and 6 days. She had been in failing health for several years, suffering from asthma and high blood pressure, death resulting from a cerebral hemorrhage.

She joined the Methodist church at an early age and attended services as long as health permitted. She always listened to the church services on the radio each Sunday and enjoyed them very much.

At the home of her parents at Lucas on July 29, 1894, she was united in marriage to William H. Boyd. The moved to Chariton in 1925, where they have since made their home.

She was a very devoted wife and mother, a splendid neighbor and was highly regarded by all who knew her for her many fine traits and genial manners. She loved and enjoyed her neighbors.

Mrs. Boyd is survived by her husband, William Boyd, of Chariton; nine children, Mrs. Blanche Campbell, Creston, Iowa; Mrs. Zora Spiker, Newton, Iowa; Raymond Boyd, Alice, Texas; Mrs. Pauline Spiker, Chariton; Mrs. Florence Edwards, Des Moines, Iowa; John Boyd, Mirando City, Texas; William Boyd, Lucas; Mrs. Helen Ellis, Miss Eloise Boyd, both of Des Moines; also 23 grandchildren and five great grandchildren; five nieces and one nephew; two sisters, Mrs. Clara Noble, Oakland, Calif., and Mrs. Luella Nyswonger, Oklahoma; and a host of friends who will miss her counsel and kindness.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and one sister.

Funeral services, in charge of Elder J. W. Blackstock, of the Latter Day Saints church, were held at the Miley Funeral Home Sunday, March 9, at 2:30 p.m. Interment was made in the Chariton cemetery.
