Carro Lizzie Clay was born in Crenshaw County, Alabama. She was the daughter of John Wesley Kay and Martha Susan Boldin.
She married John Henry Clay on October 28, 1900 in Navarro County, Texas. Carro and John had eight children; Evie, Olen, Erma, Mary Lue, Jimmie, Lois, Geneva, and Eddie. Carro was a resident of Athens for forty years, she was a housewife.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her children; Olen, Mary Lue, and Lois.
She was survived by her husband John, sons; Jimmie Clay & wife Edna, and Eddie Clay & wife Edith, daughters; Evie Rule, Erma Wilson, and Geneva Lauderdale, nineteen grandchildren and twenty-five great-grandchildren. Hassell & Foster Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
