Thomas J. Kaufman, 68, passed away 23 February 2008 following a lifetime illness of asthma and an accident with hornet spray. He was born in Coffeyville, Kansas on 17 May 1939. He was born on a wheat farm owned by his father and grandfather. The doctor was paid 31 bushels of wheat for his birth. His mother always saved that receipt. Kaufman was married first to Nola J. Stroud and to this union was born an infant girl who died at birth and is buried at Leadore. To the sorrow of all they were later divorced and after some time he married Mary Enloe in 1964. To this union a son was born, Thomas Bodeen Kaufman. Thomas J. had many jobs during his lifetime, but his favorite job al all time was driving a logging truck for Bill Kelly, until logging and sawmills were phased out and the woods were left to burn up after being devastated by Japanese Bark Beetle and Spruce Bud Worm. He is survived by his wife; his son, Thomas Bodeen (Crystal)Kaufman; one grandson, Brandon Cody Kaufman and one granddaughter, Candance Kaufman. He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, mother, father and brother. He was the last of his original family left alive. Memorial services were held 7 March 2008 at the Salmon River Funeral Chapel.
