Arlene Katz Smith passed away on August 18, 2009 after a long and brave battle with cancer. She celebrated her 70th birthday two days before, with her usual humor and grace, and enjoyed an active weekend with the family she loved. She resided at 11600 Montana Avenue in the Brentwood district of Los Angeles, California at the time of her death.
Arlene was born in Cleveland, Ohio to Irving and Hannah Katz.
She moved to Los Angeles at age eight, and later attended Hamilton High School and Los Angeles City and Santa Monica Colleges. As a young woman she travelled to many countries and always had appreciation for culture and entertained many with her stories of adventures in exotic places.
She read voraciously, and was always a lover of literature and the arts. She was known to be a wonderful conversationalist and fantastic listener. Arlene worked in many businesses as an office manager, most recently the Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf. She was industrious, clever, and worked hard while raising her two children.
Arlene Smith was the best mother anyone could want, and until her very last days, remained a devoted and loving mother, and confidante to her two children, Heather and Bradford Smith. She is also survived by her brother Paul Katz and his family, and her sister Barbara Gross, as well as her Uncle Leonard Green and several nieces and nephews.
She was loved and will be missed dearly by many family members and good friends.
Funeral Services will be held at Hillside Memorial Park at 1 p.m. on Sunday, August 23, 2009.
