Mary Ellen Carmichael, 85, of Irwin County, Georgia, died Thursday, May 21, 2015, at Tift Regional Medical Center in Tifton, Georgia.

Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Sunday, May 24, 2015, at Satilla Baptist Church in Irwin County, with the Rev. William Pope, the Rev. Joseph Cochran and the Rev. George Carroll Paulk officiating. The interment will follow in the Riverbend Cemetery in Irwin County. The family will receive friends Saturday evening, from 7 to 9, at the funeral home in Ocilla.

Mrs. Carmichael was born October 18, 1929, in Irwin County to the late Andrew Jackson and Lillie Fowler Kato. She lived in the community all of her life and was a former nurse for the late Dr. William C. Sams and Irwin County Hospital. She loved to garden and work in the yard. Mrs. Carmichael was a member of Satilla Baptist Church.

She is survived by her two daughters: Gwen and Marilyn of Wray; four grandchildren: Kim & Keith Deyo, Jan & Peter Brown, DeWayne Richardson and Jason Richardson; ten great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandsons and two sisters: Martha Ann & Phillip Perkins of Navarre Beach, Florida and Shirley Clements of Mystic. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Dewey Albert Carmichael and several siblings.
