James Kaseberg was a German immigrant who came to America in 1853, making his way to California where initially he worked in the teaming business between Sacramento and Nevada City. He later transitioned to the sheep business near Roseville, and after much hard work and diligence was able to buy out his partner's and buy enormous tracts of land which became the 50,000 Kaseberg Ranch between Roseville and the Sacramento River. In 1892, he had a great Victorian mansion built on a wooded knoll overlooking his Diamond K Ranch. He died at his ranch August 13, 1905 at the age of 78. His son William continued the operation of the ranch until his death in 1954.(The Diamond K Mobile Home Estates in located on a portion of the old Kaseberg ranch).
