Bertha Joyner Karol, a Watertown resident for many years, died on September 12 in Willow Spring, NC, at the home of her daughter, Lucinda Humlack,

She was born in Lorraine on August 9, 1912. Shortly thereafter her family moved to Mannsville. She graduated Mannsville Manor Public School in 1931.

Bertha was the widow of Edward J. Karol who died in 1981. They were married in 1937 and lived in Watertown until 1962 when they moved to Wilmington, DE.

Bertha was a registered nurse having graduated from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Watertown. She cared for patients at Mercy and at Good Samaritan hospitals. She also did private duty in patient's homes. She continued private duty nursing in Delaware until she retired in 1977.

She is survived by her son, Joseph Karol, River Edge, NJ, her daughter, Lucinda Humlack, Willow Spring, NC and her brother Marvin Joyner and his wife Marjorie, of Mannsville. She is also survived by four grandchildren, four great grandchildren and nieces & nephews.

Bertha will be interred in Maplewood Cemetary in Mannsville.
