William Andrew Kaputa, 93, of New Windsor, was the son of the late Andrew and Maryanna Fujalkowska Kaputa and the husband of Pauline Gutta Kaputa, whom he married November 27, 1943. She predeceased him.
William attended Throop High School, Throop, PA and served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II, earning the E.A.M.E. Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was a member of the Catholic War Veterans and Holy Name Society.
A businessman and entrepreneur, William owned Main Coach & Cycle and developed and owned the Mt. Beacon Ski Area, both in Beacon, N.Y.
He is survived by his children, William V. Kaputa, of East Amherst, N.Y. and Helen M. Richards, of Orange City, FL; grandchildren: Craig Matthew Kaputa, Daniel Stephen Kaputa, William Andrew Kaputa, Clarissa Ghobrial, Tammy Castellanos, Stacey Knoll, Robert Richards and Stephanie Richards; 12 great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren; sister, Felicia Chadwick, of Camden, ME; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by his brother, Vincent A. Kaputa.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated February 28 at St. Joseph's Church, New Windsor. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, New Windsor.
