Ford Official Leaves City
Mother's Death Brings L. E. Briggs
Leon E. Briggs, treasurer of Ford Motor company, returned to Detroit late Tuesday after settling affairs of his mother, Ida M. Kane, 89, who died last week and was interred Monday at Riverview cemetery.
Mrs. Kane had lived in Portland 40 years and for some years operated a linotype at The Oregonian. Her husband, Henry Kane, a retired building contractor and carpenter, died last February.
Only direct survivor, Briggs was born of a previous marriage while Mrs. Kane lived in Syracuse, N.Y., not far from her birthplace, Skaneateles, N.Y.
He had never lived in the Northwest, having joined Ford Motor near 41 years ago. He has been treasurer for nine years, and expects to retire in about two years, he said at the Benson hotel.
His mother early became a job printer and worked in several cities before moving to Portland. She was one of the oldest living members of the International Typographical union.
