Miss Julia E. Kane, who sixty years ago was a teacher in the old second ward Trapp school, died yesterday afternoon at the residence, South Fifth street. Death followed a prolonged illness. Miss Kane was born in Jacksonville, the daughter of Rev. Andrew J. and Caroline M. Kane. her father, a minister of the Disciples of Christ church, came to Springfield when Miss Kane was very young, and she had made this city her home ever since.
For some years Miss Kane taught in the Trapp school and later she was made principal of the Hay school before it was merged with the Edwards school. She had been retired for many years. She held membership in First Christian church.
Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Mattie E. Tully, New York, N. Y., and Miss Isabel Kane of this city; one brother, Newell Kane, Palestine, Tex.. - IL State Journal, Springfield, IL, 8-2-1934
