Michael "Mickey" Kalas, age85, of Greene Twp., died on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren.
He was born on October 6, 1927 in Cleveland, OH, a son of the late Mathew Kalas and the late Elizabeth Grisa Kalas.
Mickey worked as a superintendent for ODOT for 30 years as well a farmer throughout his life. He served his country with the National Guard and was an active member at St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church in Cortland.
He was a man of deep faith with a heart of gold and hands of leather. Mickey took great pride and pleasure in the simple, genuine things; family gathered in celebration, tending to his beautiful and bountiful garden, a fine meal and rest after a good days work. He was supremely independent. He did not expect or want to accept help from others, yet he was always ready to lend a hand or to share whatever he could with those in need. Mickey was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to those fortunate enough to be close to him.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Dolores Koeth Kalas, whom he married on June 21, 1952; two sons, Roger M. (Valerie) Kalas of Greene Twp. and Roy L. (Carla) Kalas of Mecca Twp., five grandsons, Clinton M., Brandon D. and Alex M. Kalas, Sheridan V. and Ryan L. Sullivan and by a granddaughter, Kristen M. Kalas. Also surviving are three brothers, George, Matthew and Ronald Kalas and three sisters, Anna Mae Tabak, Ella Kalas and Betsy Lesko.
Mickey was preceded in death by two brothers, Arthur and Joe Kalas and by two sisters, Virginia Lenyo and Marydell Regalia.

Burial will be at the All Souls Cemetery in Cortland.
