Ila Capolino, 85, of Chanute, Kansas, passed away Thursday, September 16, 2010 at the Heritage Health Care Center in Chanute, Kansas.

Ila was born in Pittsburg, Kansas on February 6, 1925, the daughter of Louis John and Mary Frances (Downs) Junod.

She graduated from Chanute High School in the Class of 1943 and from the University of Kansas in Lawrence in 1949 with a Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts.

Ila was united in marriage to John Joseph Capolino on December 26, 1959 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He preceded her in death on July 14, 1972.

She was an artist, and also worked as a Night Auditor for the Holiday Park Hotel for ten years.
During WWII she worked as a catcher with Boeing Aircraft in Wichita. She also volunteered at the Chanute Art Gallery where she acted as Treasurer and Docent, taught at the Junior College, and was active in the church.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church, the WWI Veterans Auxiliary, and the Chanute Art Gallery.

Survivors include one son, John Joseph "Joe" Capolino Jr., of Chanute, KS; one daughter, Maria Francesa Capolino of Athens, GA; one step-daughter, Ann (Capolino) Brewer of Covington, GA; a grandson, John Joseph Capolino III; and two brothers, Louis Lavern Junod of Williamsburg, VA, and Dr. Forrest Lee Junod of Sacramento, CA.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a brother, Charles Norman Junod.

Memorial services will be Monday, September 20, 2010 at the United Methodist Church. Inurnment will be at a later date in Pennsylvania.
