C.M. Joynes, 28 years of age, met a tragic death while bathing at Kidd Springs at 8:35 o'clock last night. His body was recovered after it had been in the water about three-quarters of an hour. His neck was broken and the side of his face was lacerated.
No one at the bathing resort could give any details connected with the accident. The young man went into the water shortly after 8 o'clock, saying that he would dive off the board and swim across to the pavilion. Friends whom he was supposed to join after he had made the swim of about 150 yards waited about twenty-five minutes, and when he did not appear they became alarmed and instituted search for him.
G.S. Beckwith had driven him to the resort and had seen him enter the water later. Several persons joined in the search, and after five minutes William Fouraker located the body on the bottom of the lake, almost immediately under the spring board. They tried to revive him, but their efforts proved futile. It was not known at that time that his neck was broken.
Mr. Joynes' home was in Cameron, Texas where he has a brother in business. This brother was notified last night and will come to Dallas on the first train to arrange for the disposition o the body. In the meantime the body is being held at the Weiland Undertaking Parlors. He was unmarried and roomed on Carlisle street. Until three weeks ago he roomed at the Young Men's Christian Association.
Mr. Joynes had lived in Dallas for the last three years and was connected with the Texas Power and Light Company as an estimating and calculating engineer. His employers said he was a very able man in the place. He graduated from the University of Texas about seven years ago. Immediately after leaving school he was a mining engineer in Mexico, leaving there finally on account of the Mexican internal troubles.
