MANCHESTER - Irene Esponnette, 88, of Manchester, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2008, at the MaineGeneral Medical Center, Seton Unit in Waterville. She was born in Gardiner on Aug. 6, 1920, a daughter of Sumner and Grace Goodwin Josselyn.
Irene was a graduate of Gardiner High School, class of 1938. She married her husband of 59 years, Richard Esponnette, in Randolph on Oct. 27, 1939. They were residents of Rockland from 1945 to 1975. In 1982, they retired to Spring Hill, Fla.
Irene enjoyed reading, flowers, crafts and card games. She was a past member of the Acorn Grange.
She was predeceased by her husband, Richard S. Esponnette, on Feb. 10, 1999; and her son, Richard F. Esponnette.
She is survived by two grandchildren, Peter K. Esponnette and his wife, Sally, of Auburn, and Tammy Esponnette of Standish; and four great-grandchildren, Steven, Elizabeth, Thomas and Richard.
A funeral service will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, at Staples Funeral Home, 53 Brunswick Ave., Gardiner. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Gardiner, beside her husband. (Kennebec Journal Nov. 6, 2008)
