Mrs. S. E. Babcock died at her resident in this village at 4:30 yesterday morning. Her death was quiet and peaceful. She had but a few minutes before being assisted from her bed and was sitting in a chair. She at once complained of feeling weak and Dr. Lewis was summoned but there was no need for medical skill the last spark of life was extinguished. For several weeks it had been apparent to members of her family that the end was drawing near. Her emaciated and worn out condition, following a long attack of sickness, had so depleted her vitality that there was nothing left upon which to build anew. Mrs. Babcock's illness dated back to the 15th of June when she was taken with an attack of typhoid fever, which lasted 42 days. After the fever had left her, she seemed in a fair way to recover but about a month ago she took cold and gradually grew worse. A few weeks ago she went to Oconomowoc to receive treatment at Dr. Voje's sanitarium but experienced no beneficial results. Mrs. Babcock was born at Shoreham, VT on October 20, 1842. Her maiden name was Sarah Jones. In 1863 she came to Sun Prairie on a visit to her brothers, C. H. Jones and I. D. Hayden and remained here about a year. It was while on her visit here that she became acquainted with Mr. Babcock and to whom she was married at Shoreham on September 12, 1864. Mr. Babcock died ten years ago last March. Mrs. Babcock was a woman of great mental energy and of a kindly, sympathetic nature, which made her a most desirable co-operator in all works of charity and Christian benevolence. She was ever willing to lend a helping hand to those in poverty and distress and many are the instances to be recalled of her kindly helpfulness. Her pleasant home was always open and her assistance could ever be relied upon to further the interests of every laudable undertaking. Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at two o'clock at her late home, conducted by Rev. Miner.
