Geraldine Jones Johnson, 70, of North Las Vegas, passed away May 1, 2009. She was born to the late William A. Jones Sr. and Monta Ramsey, March 14, 1939, in Pelahatchie, Miss. She was the second oldest of five children and the only daughter. Geraldine, or "Geri," as she was affectionately known, graduated from high school in Pelahatchie, and continued her education at Piney Woods College in Mississippi. While in Mississippi, she met and married her husband, Willie R. Johnson, in 1961, and shortly thereafter, they moved to Las Vegas. Geri was very active in her service to God through the church from an early age. She often spoke of attending church as a child with her great-grandmother and teaching Sunday school at age 14, and of memories of her father and mother serving as superintendent and assistant superintendent (respectively) of the church school. Her dedication to the ministry eventually led her to the United Methodist Church and her membership in Zion United Methodist Church in Las Vegas. Throughout the years, Geri has served faithfully on the local, state and regional levels, including membership and offices held in the United Methodist Women, membership and offices within the Mothers Board of Zion United Methodist Church, chairperson of the Administrative Council of Zion United Methodist Church, membership on the Staff Parish Relations Committee of Zion United Methodist Church, and as treasurer of Zion United Methodist Church, and countless other affiliations with various ministries and committees within the church at large. Further, Geri's warm spirit and dedication to being a taskmaster distinguished her as a "go to" person in the ministry. Her love for the ministry was outweighed only by her love for her family. Geri was preceded in death by her brothers, Michael and Curtis Jr. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, of 48 years, Willie R. Johnson; daughter, Pamelia and son-in-law, John; grandsons, Kristopher Marc (Christine) and Michael Angelo; two great-grandchildren, Kahila and Moorea; two brothers, William A. Jones Jr. (Earlene) and Joe R. Jones, all of Las Vegas; and a host of other family and friends. Service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 9, at Zion United Methodist Church, 2108 N. Revere St., North Las Vegas, NV 89030. Interment will be at Palm Memorial Park - Las Vegas, 1325 N. Main St., Las Vegas, NV 89101. Donations can be made to Nathan Adelson Hospice.
