Oma Vera "Jackie" Brown, 90, a lifelong resident of the Tucumcari area, passed away on Tuesday, November 3, 2009, in Farmington. She was born July 1, 1919, in Cuervo, New Mexico to John and Lillie Jones, the 5th child of 13. Jackie came into this large hardworking, yet loving family, on their homestead northwest of Tucumcari. There she married John Lewis Brown on April 12, 1940, and they were married for 52 years.
Jackie's family was important to her, and she made a home for her children where friends and family were always welcome. She was a stay-at-home mother, except for a few years when she ran the Westerner Drive-In Cafe. Older daughter, Helen, was a car hop there. When the children were little, she had chickens in the backyard as well as a garden. She also kept books for her husband's business as a mechanic, and when he ran his service station.
Mrs. Brown is survived by two daughters, Helen Sours and husband, Bill of Farmington and Billie McDaniel and husband, Tom of Littleton, Colorado; two sons, Alan Brown and wife, Randa of Farmington and Larry Brown of Tucumcari; a daughter-in-law , Vivian Brown of Tucumcari; two sisters, Lue Katy Reeves and Ora Lee Woods, both of Montana; 11 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren, and 7 great great grandchildren.
Graveside funeral services were held on Saturday, November 7, 2009, at 11:00 A.M. at the Tucumcari Cemetery with Rev. Garry Brown officiating.
Dunn Funeral Home of Tucumcari was in charge of arrangements.
