Ethel L. Armstrong, 87, of Beatrice died at the Beatrice Good Samaritan Center on Saturday afternoon, November 29, 2008. She was born on July 15, 1921 south of Wymore. She attended and graduated from Wymore High School in 1939 where she was a member of the Zephyr Cadet Drill Team. Following high school, she graduated from the National Business Institute of Lincoln. She worked in various agencies as a bookkeeper and also sold Avon Products for many years. She married George Armstrong in a double wedding ceremony along with her brother Everett R. Jones and Agnes Armstrong on November 12, 1942. She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Beatrice for many years and enjoyed visiting shut-ins in nursing homes and homebound people. She was an avid sports' fan, especially enjoying Orangemen, Lady O and Nebraska Husker athletics. She took great joy and pride following her sons' athletic careers. Ethel was a very active and involved grandmother.

Survivors include two sons, Joe Armstrong and wife Darlene of Omaha and William "Bill" Armstrong and wife Gina of Beatrice; three grandchildren, Joseph Armstrong and wife Manalle of Beatrice, Adria of Lincoln and Alicia Armstrong of Beatrice; two sisters, Wilma Keller of Beatrice and Doris Hall and husband Forrest of Lincoln; one brother Gerald Jones and his wife Peggie of Northfield, Minnesota; sister-in-law Jean Shalla and her husband Les of Wymore; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Alice Hughes Jones; her husband, George who died on July 14, 1986, brother Everett Jones, sister Blodwyn Jones and brother-in-law Vincent Keller.

Graveside services will be Thursday, December 4, 2008 at 10:00 A.M. at the Bethel Cemetery south of Wymore. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, December 4, at the First Presbyterian Church of Beatrice with Dr. Jimmy Shelbourn officiating. A memorial has been established to the First Presbyterian Church and Welsh Heritage Museum of Wymore with Niel and Verna Tubbs in charge. The body will lie in state at the Fox Funeral Home until 9:00 P.M. Wednesday and not at the church. The family will meet and greet relatives and friends Wednesday evening from 7:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
