He attended schools in Owls Head and Rockland High School, after which he joined the Navy and served as seaman 1st class on the USS Diamond Head. He was honorably discharged in 1967. Returning home and getting married, he chose to become a commercial fisherman, fishing out of Rockland, New Bedford and Gloucester, Mass., until ill health forced his retirement.
Roger was predeceased by his parents; wife; and brother Glenn Jones; plus his two Doberman dogs, Cody and Mason, that he loved dearly. Roger is survived by his partner and soul mate of 10 and a half years, Marion Gleason from Skowhegan, whom he had met many years ago. They both had married, and as time went on they both lost their spouses in 2002, and by the grace of God, they were reunited and became soul mates again and had a wonderful life together.
Roger is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth Campbell; and two grandsons, Derik Campbell and Darren Campbell, of Brampton, Ontario; an estranged son, Nathan Jones, of Portland; and an estranged stepson, Lloyd Gray; a cousin, Eleanor Nash, of South Thomaston; and his dear friends, Lance and Kathy Watton, of Friendship. Roger also is survived by Marion's family, who loved him dearly and he was called "Daddy Rog." Many good times were had with them, Cathy O'Connor and her husband, Jeff VandenHeuvel, Lee and Carolyn Hutchinson and Jeff, Jodi and Joshua Michaud, and his dear car Tabby.
There will be a graveside service in the spring at Jones family lot at Achorn Cemetery in Rockland. (Morning Sentinel 1/4/2013)
