Luther Jones died at the age of 32, executed in the Gas Chamber at Nevada's State Prison. He was convicted of killing Walter Godecke in Elko County in Eastern Nevada in October of 1936. Luther Jones had a long criminal record, he was released from Montana State Penitentiary and traveled to Utah, six days after his release from Montana's Prison, he forced a Taxi Driver at gun point to drive him to Montello, Nevada, he let the Cabbie go, but kept the cab. He then drove to a Ranch outside of Elko, Nevada and held up three men, desperate for cash. In the midst of the robbery, a fourth man stumbled upon the crime in progress. Jones shot the man, then killed the other three men, and fled the scene. He was captured a short time later in Carlin, Nevada, immediately arrested. Convicted of murder, he was sentenced to death.
