REST IN PEACE..
JONES, Thomas Smith Passed away on September 30, 2009 from complications of cancer. Tom was born in Columbia, TN in 1932. He was born the second of four brothers whose parents Edward and Marion Jones preceded him in death. He is also preceded in death by his brothers, William L. and Clyde E. Jones. He is survived by his wife of thirty one years, Barbara Fleming Jones; his brother, Donald Gray Jones of San Antonio, TX. He is also survived by his step children, Les Jones (wife Leah) of Memphis, TN and Sherry Terry (husband Pat) of Nashville; grandchildren, Patrick Wade Terry, Anna Fleming Terry, Eleanor Louise Jones and William Townes Jones. Tom attended high school in Columbia, TN where he excelled in football, and was awarded honorary AllState Status. He later attended Tennessee Tech University on a full football scholarship, and was a member of the superb team that played in the Tangerine Bowl. He majored in Industrial Engineering and graduated in 1955. After college he joined the Army where he became a 1st Lieutenant. He received a Master's degree from George Peabody Vanderbilt in 1957. In addition, he attended the Nashville School of Law prior to taking a job at the U.S. Patton office in Washington, DC. Throughout his life he worked as a developer, teacher and principal. For the last thirteen years of his career, he worked for the Department of Human Services in Lebanon, TN. He resided in Cookeville, TN for many years and moved to Nashville in 1996. Tom and and his wife were members of St. Henry Catholic Church. While he loved golfing, fishing, reading and history, he especially loved spending time with his grandchildren. He was a family man in the truest since of the word. He will be greatly missed. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m., Monday, October 5, 2009 at St. Henry Catholic Church with Rev. Michael Johnston, Celebrant. Interment 1 p.m. at Middle Tennessee Veterans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Sick and Homebound at St. Henry Catholic Church or Amelia Fleming Medical Fund, c/o Bethlehem UMC, 2419 Bethlehem Loop Road, Franklin TN 37069.
