Phyllis Salina Jones Burton passed away in her sleep on May 14, 2011 in Sandy, Utah at the age of ninety-three.
She was born April 7, 1918 in Mount Pleasant, Utah to Charles Augustus and Augusta Madsen Jones. She was the youngest of ten children.
She spent her early years in Mount Pleasant, Utah, and helped with keeping the family going when her mother died when Phyllis was eleven years old. Her grandparents on both sides passed away before she was born. She had four brothers and five sisters with whom she stayed very close throughout their entire lives.
Phyllis married John Alton Burton of Nephi, Utah in 1932 during the Great Depression. They started their marriage owning a chicken farm in Nephi, and later moved to Salt Lake where both of them worked in the armory during World War II making ammunition for the war effort. After the war ended, they owned a dry cleaners and sporting goods store for many years.
Phyllis also worked as a dietician for the LDS Hospital for many years, and retired in 1972. They were married for sixty-two years when her husband John (Pop) passed away in 1994. She was later sealed to her husband in the Jordan River Temple.
Phyllis was a wonderful and kind person to everyone she met. She enjoyed spending time with her family more than anything else. She was a great example to everyone.
She is survived by six sons, Theron Dee (Betty) Burton of Heber City, Utah, Ted (Linda) Burton of Jerome, Idaho, Gene (Novella)Burton of Taylorsville, Utah, Carl Burton of Murray, Utah, Robert (Linda) Burton of Sandy, Utah, and Ross (Kim) Burton of Draper, Utah. She is also survived by twenty-six grandchildren, fifty great-grandchildren, and sixteen great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Dixie Burton Lea.
Funeral Services will be at Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary, 1950 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 South), on Thursday, May 19, 2011 at 11:00 am. There will be a viewing held at the mortuary on Wednesday, May 18, 2011 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and immediately preceding the funeral from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m.
Interment will be in the Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park at 3401 South Highland Drive (1495 East) immediately following the funeral.
