Dorothy V. Hamilton, age 93 of Mt. Vernon and a former resident of Waltonville, passed away 8:40 a.m. Thursday, February 27, 2014 at White Oak Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Mt. Vernon.
Dorothy was born July 8, 1920 in Baltimore, Maryland the daughter of J.B. and Vivian (Bishop) Jones. On September 4, 1942 in Miami, Florida, she married Robert F. Hamilton and he survives in Mt. Vernon.
Mrs. Hamilton was member of the First Freewill Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon. Dorothy was a devoted Christian. Dorothy worked for many years as a daycare provider in Waltonville. The kids lovingly referred to her as Hamil. She often visited the nursing homes and those who were shut in. She loved spending time with Robert working in the Garden.
Dorothy is survived by her two sons, Robert F. Hamilton Jr. and wife Nancy of Fleming Island, Florida and Mike Hamilton and wife Taffy of The Villages, Florida and a former resident of Marion, Illinois; two grandson, Jeff Hamilton and wife Sheila of Calendonia, Ohio and Quent Hamilton and wife Michelle of Marion; two granddaughter, Rebecca Powell and husband David of Middleburg, Florida and Angela Hamilton Berry of Hamel and a former resident of Centralia; and also ten great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents Dorothy was preceded in death by, her brothers, Johnnie and Harold; and also three sisters, Myrtis, Rosie and Gracie.
Funeral services for Dorothy Hamilton will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, March 1, 2014 at Newell Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with Rev. David Shores officiating. Burial will follow at Knob Prairie Cemetery in Waltonville. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time on Saturday at the Newell Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.
