COUNCIL, Marjorie L., of Palm View, passed away Tuesday, January 21 in the loving arms of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was born in Evansville, Indiana on August 12, 1921. While still an infant her parents moved to Florida where they lived in Jacksonville, Tampa, Palmetto and Fort Myers. Marjorie attended Palmetto High School where she met her sweetheart and future husband of 68 years, Walter W. Council. Walter passed away in October 2010. She was preceded in death by her father, Leslie A. Jones; mother, Ollie M. Seiler; sister Betty Jo Didier and brother Leslie A. Jones, Jr. She leaves behind her three adoring children and their spouses, Diane Peebles (Jerry), Sharon Mullens (Jim) and David W. Council (Amy); loving grandchildren, Pamella Boozer, Keith Peebles, Jimmy Mullens, Austin Council and Cole Council; five great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren; step-sisters, Ruth Edwards (Charles) and Jean Rauf (Jim); sister-in-law, Monteen C. Hayman; brothers-in-law, Charlie T. Council, Earl Council (Nadine); and numerous nieces and nephews.On behalf of their mother, the family wishes to express her great love and appreciation to devoted caregivers, Joyce Altman and Sandy Waldron, who have loved and cared for her as if she had been their own mother. Marjorie was known for her loving and kind spirit; she was a caring and thoughtful person in all of her deeds and actions. She loved animals and humans alike. Marjorie could be described as an earthly angel who epitomized the meaning of love. Loving her family above all else. She was as strong as she was gentle - her remarkable gifts of strength and courage were ever present as she faced and overcame many of life's most challenging physical and emotional circumstances. Marjorie was a gifted homemaker, devoted wife, an extraordinary mother and grandmother and a sensitive and thoughtful friend. She gave of her time and talents as a school and community volunteer serving for many years as homeroom mother, Sunday school teacher, PTA officer, Girl Scout and Brownie Troop leader. A victim of polio, Marjorie devoted many years of her life as a volunteer fundraiser for the March of Dimes in the fight to eradicate the disease. Receiving of friends will be at the Palm View First Baptist Church, 415 49th Street E., Palmetto, FL 34221 on Monday, January 27 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. immediately after, a service celebrating her life will be held followed by her burial nearby at Skyway Memorial Gardens. If you are so inclined, the family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made in Marjorie's memory to Rotary International's or to the Polio Plus Fund.
