Delores Howard Jones, 72, of North Commerce Avenue, Waynesboro, died at her residence on Tuesday, July 10, 2007, after an extended illness.
A daughter of the late Lennis C. and Hilda V. Jones Carter, she was born February 24, 1935.
Mrs. Jones attended Lucy F. Simms School in Harrisonburg, where she graduated as valedictorian in 1952. She was a beautician for 54 years in Harrisonburg and Waynesboro and also conducted classes at Staunton School of Cosmetology. She was past president and founder of Lucy F. Simms School Reunion Committee and owned and operated Africa Unlimited Clothing Boutique in Harrisonburg and Waynesboro. She was a member of Union Baptist Church in Waynesboro, where she was a faithful member of the Bible study until her health failed.
She is survived by two sons, Eddie Howard II of Waynesboro and Terry A. Howard of Staunton; one daughter, Marilynn Williams of Waynesboro; two brothers, Daniel L. Carter of Harrisonburg, and Gary W. Carter of Staunton; two sisters, Linda Carter Murphy of Harrisonburg and Adrianne Snowden of Richmond; five grandchildren, 10 great -grandchildren, one niece, one nephew and extended family and friends.
Funeral services will be held 11 a,m, Saturday, July 14, 2007, at the Lindsey Harrisonburg Chapel with Bishop Charles Thomas officiating. Burial will follow at Newtown Cemetery.
Friends will be received at her residence at anytime.
