Mrs Clarence Bates, 55, town clerk of the town of Dover for the last nine years, died yesterday at her home of a heart ailment. The former Miss Mary Ann Jones, she was born in Dover Plains Jan. 6, 1902, daughter of Mr. & Mrs Clark Jones. Her husband died 10 years ago. Survived by a daughter, Mrs Jeanne Faix, Dover Plains; sons Clarence Jr, with the US Navy in Norfolk, Va, and John, with the US Army in Richland, Wash; three sisters, Mrs Walter Cribley, Mrs Francis Cunningham, and Mrs Foster Morrison, Wassaic; brother John Jones, Wassaic; two grandchildren.
