Born the eleventh child to the union of John Solomon Jones and Eva Madkins-Jones in Longview, Texas.

Upon losing her mother, Eva, Goldye moved in with her brother, John S. Jones and his wife, Mary V. Jones and relocated to Dallas, Texas, to attend Booker T. Washington High School where she graduated as the valedictorian.

Goldye's college career was spent at Wiley College in Marshall, Texas. There she was initiated into Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., and was named Miss Wiley College. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology and graduated with honors. During their courtship, Alcee D. Hart served in World War II until it ended and Goldye worked in the San Francisco welding yards on military ships. They were married in 1945 while he served in the South Pacific. The happy couple moved to Phoenix from Los Angeles in 1948. In the periods forward, Goldye assisted her brothers by participating in building the first Black-owned life insurance company, Sun Valley Life Insurance, Great Southwest Construction Corps, Williams and Jones Construction and Mutual Investors, all located in Phoenix, Arizona. Goldye also owned other businesses including the current business, Hart Group LLP. Over 60 years in business and operations in the State of Arizona, Goldye's main career in Phoenix was to be an outstanding teacher at Percy L. Julian Elementary School where she became Vice-Principal and where she educated thousands of students. After serving as Vice Principal, she became the District Curriculum Supervisor.

Goldye also became the first African American female Principal in the Roosevelt School District at T. G. Barr Elementary School. She earned her Master's Degree in Education at Arizona State University. After an illustrious career with over 30 years in education and administration, Goldye continued to serve in her community and was an active member of First Institutional Baptist Church for over 60 years.

Goldye was an honored member of many organizations which include Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. (72 years), The Links, Inc. (50 years), NAACP (60 years), National Education Association (N.E.A.) Royalettes, City Commissions and the South Mountain Village. She was also a member of the Phoenix Black Chamber of Commerce and other organizations. She was a recipient of the Susan B. Anthony Award.

For people who knew Goldye, she represented a strong, honest, humorous, compassionate, educated, successful and blessed woman. Goldye went home to be with the Lord on August 2, 2011. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Alcee D. Hart, Sr.; daughter, Angela M. Hart-Kirkendall; and a son, Alcee D. Hart, Jr.

Funeral services will Saturday, August 13, 2011 at 10:00 am with a one hour prior viewing at First Institutional Baptist Church, 1141 E. Jefferson St., Phoenix, Arizona.
