Edward F. "Jimmy" Jones, 79, of Little Rock went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, August 23, 2010. He was born October 25, 1930 in Jackson, TN to the late J.W. and Marianna Lanier Jones. His beloved wife Jacquelyn Wells Jones preceded him in death as well as two brothers, Billy and Bobby Jones.
Jimmy graduated from Little Rock High School in 1948 and attended Little Rock University where he was a member of the golf team. After spending two years in the Air Force during the Korean War, he returned to Little Rock and married his high school sweetheart, Jacque. He worked for 41 years with the Missouri Pacific Railroad as an electrical supervisor and left a legacy of servanthood and character in all his endeavors. As a deacon and Heritage Club (50 + years) member of Second Baptist Church, Jimmy was twice awarded the honor of Deacon of the Year. He had fond memories of his years as a member of the Rosedale Optimist Club where he was famous for flocking the trees for customers at the Christmas tree lot.
Jimmy loved fishing, golfing, and cooking, but his favorite activity always involved helping friends in need. Putting that gift into practice, he was a founding member of a group of men at Second Baptist called, "Willing Hands." As the group enjoyed the huge breakfast Jimmy prepared for them once a month, they would assign upcoming projects for the benefit of anyone in the church who needed help with household repairs or yard work. He spent many hours working at Second Baptist's Lake Nixon, around the church grounds, and mowing his mother-in-law's property on Colonel Glenn. Jimmy extended his helping hand outside of his immediate church family as he traveled to such places as Chile, Peru, Alaska, Canada, and New Orleans on mission trips. He repaired homes for victims of Hurricane Katrina and built churches with an organization called "A Church in a Day."
Jimmy adored his grandchildren and took every opportunity to spend quality "lecturing" time with them. Whether it was helping them learn to ride a bike without training wheels or taking them fishing, "Papaw" never tired of teaching them new and exciting skills. Jimmy was a hard worker and a great friend and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him. The family would like to give a special thanks to his many friends at Baptist Health, the staff of Fox Ridge Assisted Living Center in Chenal, and his dear friend Annie Greer. The last months of his life were made more comfortable because of the wonderful, loving attention he received while under their care.
