Sara Frances Jones Flowers 92, Smyrna Ga, died peacefully in her sleep on May 27, 2016 at Tranquility Hospice at Wellstar Cobb Hospital. Born March 8 1924 in Griffin Ga, she is predeceased by her parents, Power Jones and Elizabeth Morrow and her Brother Billy Jones of Birmingham Al, and her late husband of 48 years, Leslie Walton Flowers of Atlanta Ga.

Sara went to work during WW2, working first for the Veteran’s Administration and later for the Selective Service System where she rose to the position of Deputy State Director of Selective Service Georgia; the first woman to ever hold that position. She continued to work throughout the Korean conflict and the Vietnam War, retiring in 1975 when the draft was discontinued.

Survivors include her daughters, Leslie Darlene Martin and Joan Frances Mullins of Smyrna GA and Shirley Ann Langley of Vinings, GA and 9 grandchildren, 16 greatgrandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
