Jazz Musician. Born in Kansas City, Missouri, he was a talented trumpet player who was renowned in the international jazz community. He played with jazz greats in both New York and Los Angeles for over 40 years. He worked with Harold Land, Curtis Amy, Bud Shank, Gerald Wilson, Leo Wright, Eugen Cicero, Milo Pavlovic, Paul Kuhn, and the Radio Free Europe Band. His album credits as leader include "The Remarkable Carmell Jones" (1961), "Business Meetin" (1962), "Jay Hawk Talk" (1965), "Carmell Jones In Europe" (1965 to 1966), "Carmel Jones Returns" (1982), and as a sideman "Groovin' Blue" (1961), "Barefoot Adventure" (1961), "New Groove" (1961), "You Better Believe It" (1961), "Soviet Jazz Themes" (1962), "Brass Bag" (1962), "Hear Ye!! Hear Ye!! Hear Ye!!" (1962), "Now's The Time" (1962), "Jazz Impressions Of Folk Music" (1963), "Big City" (1963), "Sarah Sings Soulfully" (1963), Moment of Truth (1963), "Conflict" (1963), "The Blues Book" (1964), "Groovin' High" (1964), "Live 1964" (1964), "Portraits" (1964), "The Hip Walk" (1965), "The Natives Are Restless Tonight" (1965), "Latin Mann (Afrom To Bossa To Blues)" (1965), Song For My Father" (1965), "On Stage" (1965), More Than Meets The Ear" (1969), "Berlin Dialogue For Orchestra" (1971), "It's All Wright" (1972), "Let's Swing" (1979), and "8th and Central (1991). He was a veteran of the Korean War, having served with the United States Air Force. He died following a long illness. In 2003, Mosaic Albums posthumously released a three-CD set of Jones material in their Mosaic Select series.
