The family is being served by the James O'Donnell Funeral Home of Hannibal, MO.

Richard was born November 27, 1933, the son of Kenneth O. Jones and Martha E. Stoltz Jones in New London where he was a lifelong resident.

He lived his life as a dedicated husband, dad and "Pa" while enjoying the things he loved, including carpentry, wood working and building two homes for his son and family. He also loved making and refinishing furniture for his family and friends. He enjoyed fishing with his family on Salt River and gardening and canning with his wife and baking sweets in the kitchen. One of Richards's most amazing talents was that he was a self taught artist. Richard was a true artist with his ability to see a piece of furniture and build it. He could also look at a picture and paint it free hand, giving it a primitive look that was usually loved more than the original. Richard also enjoyed listening and watching on TV the St. Louis Cardinals and Missouri Tigers. Most of all he was the proudest "Pa" of his two grandkids. They could do no wrong through his eyes.

Richard grew up in a small house just a couple blocks from the Ralls County Courthouse. He was raised by his "Granny", Etta Jones and his father as his mother passed away when he was 3 years old. Richard graduated from New London High School in 1955. After graduation he worked at the International Shoe Co. in Hannibal, then Don Williams Construction, Mark Twain Boat Factory of New London and the Great River Marina of Saverton until it closed. He later worked with Stanley and Dale Walkley for many years building houses in the surrounding area.

He was united in marriage on February 24, 1968 to Connie Sue Stuart in Perry, MO at the St. Williams Catholic Church. They celebrated their 44th anniversary this year. In 1988 his health took a toll and his kidneys began to fail. Richard underwent dialysis while waiting for a match to be found for a kidney transplant. Finally, a donor was found and Richard received his kidney. Until his passing Richard was the oldest living transplant recipient in Missouri. Richard was a member of the New London First Christian Church.

He is survived by his wife Connie of the home; one child, Richard Lee Jones Jr. and wife Pam Woodson Jones; grandson, Clayton Lee Jones and granddaughter, Olivia Marie Jones all of rural Center, MO; one sister Barbara Ruth Whelan (Bill) of Hannibal, MO; Mother-in-law, Jo Stuart; Sister-in-law, Linda Woodhurst; Brother-in-law and Sister-in-law, Tom and Pam Asquith; Brother-in-law, Dennis Stuart all of Perry, MO. Also surviving are 14 nieces and nephews and numerous great nieces and great nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a father-in-law, Mark Stuart; one brother-in-law, William "Bill" Woodhurst and one sister-in-law, Jacquie Stuart all of Perry, MO.

Richard has left a heart print on everyone that knew him as "CAT". He will never be forgotten, only greatly missed.

Honorary pallbearers will be: Dennis Stuart, Tim Asquith, Dale Walkley, Leroy Herring, Terry Herring and Ronnie Scott.

Memorial contributions may be made to the James O'Donnell Funeral Home for funeral expenses.
