JONES - At Woodville, by accident on Saturday August 7th 1920, Vincent Mowlem Jones, relict of Mary Ann Jones; aged 72 years

Woodville Examiner, 9 Aug 1920
Mr V. M. JONES KILLED
A distressing accident occurred on Saturday evening, whereby Mr V. M. Jones, a resident of the district for many years, lost his life.
Mr Jones was walking towards his home in North Street, about half past six and just before the turning he was struck by a car coming from Bakerstown, driven by Mr L. Christie, taxi-proprietor, of Woodville. Mr Christie pulled up immediately and with assistance of Mr C. Ware, who was cycling to town, lifted the injured man into the car and drove ot Dr Mules, where Mr Jones died very shortly after.
The late Mr Jones was born in Clapton, a suburb of London, 72 years ago. He was in the Indian Army for a time and came to New Zealand when he was 26 years of age, landing in Dunedin. Sixteen years later he came to Woodville where he has resided ever since, for the greater part of the time carrying on the business of a milk-run. The deceased was of a particularly kindly nature, making many friends but never an enemy.
His wife predeceased him in 1916 and leaves two daughters, Mrs F. Kappley, with whom he lived and Mrs W. Curry, also of Woodville and one son, Mr Bert Jones, of Napier, to whom the sympathy of the district will go out in their bereavement. The funeral will take place tomorrow afternoon.
An inquest was held this morning before Mr J. D. Wilson, Coroner and adjourned for a week. The Coroner stated that in view of the number of accidents occurring he sympathised with the Police in asking for an adjournment, in order that the fullest information might be obtained for the benefit of all the parties concerned.
