GREENFIELD -- Chester D. Jones, 80, of 230 Davis Street, died Saturday (October 14, 2006) at the Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield. He was born in Lowell, MA on March 21, 1926 the son of Clyde R. and Jesse V. (Sanborn) Jones.
Mr. Jones was a graduate of Arms Academy in Shelburne Falls class of 1944. He was a World War II Navy Veteran. For a period of time he worked for Cook Farm, Snow's Dairy and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in the engineering/surveying Department. Chet was a Greenfield Police Officer for 31 years before retiring in September of 1982. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He married his wife the former Marian F. McDonald on March 10, 1945, and she pre-deceased him in March of 1983.
Among his survivors he leaves 1 daughter Carol Jones of Greenfield; 2 sisters Thelma Finck and her husband Robert of Buckland, MA and Dorothy Giddings of Greenfield, MA and a long time close friend Fay Chevalier of Greenfield, MA; and several nieces and nephews. One sister pre-deceased him, Gertrude Shields in 2004.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, October 17, 2006 at 11 a.m. at the Kostanski Funeral Home, 220 Federal St., Greenfield MA. Burial will follow in Arms Cemetery in Shelburne Falls.
Calling hours will be Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
