V. Ruth Brown
V. Ruth Brown, 79, of Natrona Heights, died Friday, May 19, 2006, in her home. She was born March 12, 1927 in Sagamore to the late H. Paul and Marjorie (Frye) Johnston and lived in the Valley most of her life.
As a young woman, she was a secretary at PPG, where she met her husband-to-be and many of her lifelong friends.
Together they enjoyed dancing, bowling and card playing. In mid-life, she was struck with multiple sclerosis but still raised four children and managed a happy home. After the untimely death of her husband, Francis, in 1982 and being wheelchair-bound, she was able to live independently for 13 years. In later life, Ruth remained at home and was cared for by her daughters, granddaughters and loving caregivers.
She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Brackenridge; enjoyed reading, crocheting and her grandchildren, and was an inspiration to all who knew her for her strength of spirit.
She will be missed sadly by son Michael (Jeny) Brown, of Los Angeles; daughters Randi (Bob) McGinnis, of Tarentum, Mary Beth (Arthur) Godfrey, of Sarver, and Judy (Rick) Schafer, of Worthington; grandchildren Beth, Bobbi, Ricky, Alexa, Jessica and Wren; sisters Myrna Baer, of Greensburg, and Chris Methven, of Georgia, and many cherished nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in the CICHOLSKI-ZIDEK FUNERAL HOME, Natrona Heights.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Trinity United Methodist Church with her pastor, the Rev. Alyce Weaver-Dunn, officiating. Everyone please meet at the church.
Burial will be in Our Lady of Hope Cemetery, Frazer.
