J.K. Johnston, Retired Area Businessman Dies
J. Kenneth "Jack" Johnston, 70, of 216 West Market St., Clearfield, a retired business and former school director, died yesterday, Jan. 25, at 12:25 p.m. in the Clearfield Hospital.
Services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. from the Bennett Funeral Home Inc. with the Rev. Carl E. Hill officiating. Interment will follow in Crown Crest Memorial Park.
Friends will be received at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and until the hour of service on Friday.
A Masonic service will be held at the funeral home at 7 p.m. Thursday.
The family suggests contributions to a charity of the donor's choice.
Mr. Johnston was born at Clearfield Oct. 6, 1906, a son of C. G. and Elizabeth (Lloyd) Johnston.
He is survived by his wife, the former Mildred Bratton; a son, John K. Johnston, Lawrenceville, N.J.; two grandchildren; Michael and Karen; and these brothers and sisters: Walter W. Johnston and Mrs. Ruth Beabes, both of Clearfield; and Mrs. Helen DuWell and William Johnston, both of Ft. Myers, Fla.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Orvis.
Mr. Johnston was associated with his brother, Walter, in the former Johnston Bakery Co. and later in the Iron railing and storm window business.
He served as a school director for 18 years and served as president of the board for several teams. He also served as secretary of the YMCA board of directors.
Mr. Johnston was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church; the Clearfield Lodge of Masons, F & AM No. 314; the Goshen Rod and Gun Club and a life member of Clearfield Fire Co. No. 1.
In addition, Mr. Johnston was a graduate of Clearfield High School and attended the University of Michigan and Penn State.
