CLEVELAND — Della M. Johnston, age 76, of Russell Road, Saybrook Township, died Friday, Sept. 18, 2009, at University Hospitals of Cleveland.
She was born May 11, 1933, in Cleveland, Ohio, the daughter of Michael and Lottie (Kocemba) Bienko.
She moved to Ashtabula at an early age and graduated from Ashtabula High School in 1951. While in high school, she was as a secretary at Niesner's Store on Main Ave. in Ashtabula.
She married Donald E. Johnston on July 28, 1951, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ashtabula.
She is a member of St. Joseph Church and had worked as a school secretary for over 40 years at St. Joseph Elementary School, ACES and Sts. John and Paul. She was fondly known as "Mrs. J." to the students and staff.
She enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family and friends.
Surviving her is husband, Donald; three sons, Donnie (Connie) and Dennis, both of Ashtabula and Doug (Kris) of Jefferson; and five grandchildren, Stephen, Candace, Lauren, Victoria and Jimmy.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Ronald M. Biennia.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated, 10 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 23rd, at the St. Joseph Church, 3312 Lake Ave., Ashtabula, with the Rev. Father Philip Miller, presiding. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the family. Envelopes will be available at the church and at the Ashtabula Home of FLEMING & BILLMAN FUNERAL DIRECTORS, 526 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula, Ohio.
