Obituary for Frank Thomas Johnston
Frank Thomas Johnston, known as Tom Johnston, age 87, passed away at his ranch Friday, June 3, 2002. He was born on June 8, 1914. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Johnston. On June 21, they would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Also, Johnston is survived by Raelene and Bill Waltman, Vicki and Gary Root, Karon and Gary Hester, seven grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and sister, Elburna and Pierce McClelland, all of Lassen County. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by parents, Fred and Edna Johnston; sisters, Helen Johnston and Gladys Johnston; and daughter, Marlene Johnston. He was a third generation Lassen County rancher who was born, worked, lived and passed away on the same Johnston Ranch. The greatest joys of his life were his family, ranch, horses and cattle. He enjoyed many years of rodeos and horse shows; calf roping, team roping and stock horse classes. He was the last of the Johnston family Johnstonville, Calif. was named after. Services were held at the Colonial Mortuary Chapel. Interment followed at the Janesville Cemetery. The family requests any donations be made in Tom's memory to a favorite charity of choice.
