Milton Lee Johnston, age 70, of Mesquite, passed away November 15, 2001 in Dallas, after fighting multiple myeloma for 10 months. He was born April 1, 1931, in Jack County to J.J.(Turk) and Lena Johnston and was a resident of Mesquite for more than 40 years. He married Joyce Marie Williamson on December 29, 1956. She preceded him in death on September 29, 2001. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Dianne and Mark Hayes of Rockwall; granddaughter, Blair Tunnell of Rockwall; sisters, Sarah Hayes of Perrin and Joy Currens of Athens; niece, Cindy Burden of Arlington and great-niece, Sarah Elizabeth Burden of Arlington; and, nephew, Jay Ward Hayes of Perrin and great-nephew, Zach Hayes of Perrin.
Milton was well known in the Mesquite commuinity, having helped form the Mesquite Girls Softball fast pitch league with Marie Rex and Gary Kinne, Sr. in 1974. He remained active in girls' softball over the years umpiring in both Mesquite and Garland Leagues. He also enjoyed umpiring girls' fast pitch softball at the high school level in Mesquite and surrounding communities untill October 2000. He had many friends and adored his granddaughter whom he saw play two t-ball bames before he died.
He owned and operated Johnston Enterprises, a printing and promotional products company, for the last 10 years, through which he made many business friends in the area. He was also a member of Shiloh Terrace Baptist Church.
Milton was a doveted husband, father, brother, and grandfather who will be greatly missed.
Services are scheduled for 11:00a.m. Monday, November 19, 2001, at Laurel Oaks Funeral Home Chapel in Mesquite with Dr. Dennis Hochgraber officiating. Family visitation will be from 2:00p.m. to 5:00p.m. on Sunday, November 18, 2001. Pallbearers will be Steve Hale, Mike Vines, Bill Hooten, Jay Ward Hayes, Jim Lewellen, and Dan Ripple.
