Vera V. Kuenzel, 82, a longtime Havre area resident, died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2000, at a Havre care center of natural causes.
Funeral Services were held Jan. 19, at the First Lutheran Church with the Rev. Walt Kirkegaard officiating. Burial followed at Highland Cemetery.
Kuenzel was born Jan. 15, 1918, to Gideon and Stella (Gates) Johnson north of Havre. She attended rural schools through the eighth grade at Staten Coulee School north of Havre and graduated from Havre High School in 1936. During her school years she was employed at Woolworth's and Buttrey.
In 1937, she married Walter H. Kuenzel. The couple were divorced in 1974.
She graduated from Northern Montana College with a teaching certificate in 1964. She taught at Hilldale Colony for five years. She farmed north of Havre from 1969 until the time of her death.
She was a lifetime member of the First Lutheran Church in Havre, a member of the Eagles Auxiliary, Daughters of the Nile, Order of the Eastern Star, D.A.R. and the Hill County Democrats.
Kuenzel was preceded in death by her parents, and two sons, Bernard in 1941, and Gregory in 1948.
Survivors include a son, Bryon Kuenzel of Grand Forks, N.D.; a daughter, Darla Kuntz of Havre; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
