Verda Johnson Heitz, 88, passed away Monday, March 8, 2004 at her home.

She was born May 12, 1915 in Preston, Idaho, a daughter of Albert E. and Luda Packer Johnson. Her twin brother, Vaughan, died at six months.

Verda was reared and educated in Preston and in Logan, where she graduated from Logan High School and attended Utah State Agricultural College.

On May 8, 1935, she married her high school sweetheart, Albert M. Heitz in the Logan Temple.

Verda was an active member of the Ogden 21st Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served as a Relief Society counselor, Young Women leader, Compassionate Service leader and Den Mother.
Verda and Al enjoyed their calling together, doing Temple Sealings in the Ogden Temple.

She worked for Heitz Heating, Coleman Knitting and Home Abstract and Title Company.

She belonged to the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, Camp Golden and the Lady Lions Club.

Verda was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her happiest moments were spent surrounded by her family.
She made wonderful handmade chocolates, and found great pleasure in sharing them with others. She made beautiful quilts, crocheted hangers, and afghans. She also loved working in her rose garden.

Verda is survived by her five children and their spouses, JaNae (Burt) Penrod, Roy; Al (Karen) Heitz, Surprise, AZ; Ann (Charles) Child, North Salt Lake; Kent (Kathleen) Heitz, South Ogden; Kathryn (Dick) Coleman, North Ogden; 22 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Monday, March 15th at 11 a.m. at Lindquists Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., with Bishop Garth Bodily of the Lorin Farr 3rd Ward officiating.

Friends may call at the mortuary Sunday, March 14th from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m.
