Inez Bothwell died Thursday, June 4, 2009.
Memorial service: A private family service was held at Taylor Chapel, NAS Fort Worth, on June 26. Command Chaplain Jeffery Tisdale officiated. Interment: Will be in Arlington National Cemetery, next to her beloved husband, Robert L. Bothwell Sr.
Inez was born Jan. 31, 1920, in Maben, Miss., to James and Eva Lou Johnson. Raised on the family farm, she was the seventh of their 10 children. She graduated from Self Creek High School, where she was a star basketball player. Inez attended the University of Tennessee and Virginia Intermont College. During World War II, she worked for Darryl Zanuck producing documentary films at the Pentagon. She and Bob were married June 10, 1943, at St. Albans Episcopal Church in Washington, D.C. They began a life's journey together that would last 47 years, span the nation and take them from modest beginnings to achieve the American dream.
Inez was the archetypal post-war suburban homemaker and a career navy wife, fully devoted to her husband and supportive of her three sons. She began playing golf as therapy after contracting polio in the early 1950s. She rose to become one of the leading players on the Southern California amateur circuit as a member of the Coronado and Woodland Hills golf clubs. She became a resident of Fort Worth in 2007.
Survivors: Sons, Robert L. Bothwell Jr. and wife, Susan, Max L. Bothwell and Dr. James L. Bothwell and wife, Andrea; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and brothers, Dot Johnson and Allen T. Johnson.
