Charles Lawrence "Chuck" Johnson, age 55, formerly of Vernal, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2004 at his home in Cheyenne, Wyo. He was born on July 22, 1948 in Ajo, Ariz. to H. Jim and Betty June Dingman Johnson.

Chuck's dad worked for the Fish and Wildlife Service. They moved to Vernal in 1963 where Chuck completed his sophomore through senior years, and graduated from Uintah High School in 1966. He was a star athlete on the track team in high school. He attended the University of Utah in Salt Lake City where he received his Associate's Degree.

Chuck married Christine Louise Morton on Dec. 14, 1968 in Vernal. They have 2 children.

In 1970, Chuck joined the Air Force and retired in July 2000, holding the rank of chief master sergeant after faithfully serving his country for 30 years. His service was his life and he loved serving his country. During his service he was stationed all over the world, from Thailand to Germany and at several bases in the U.S.

Chuck is survived by his parents of Vernal;
his wife Christine of 36 years; son Charles Lance Johnson of Cheyenne, Wyo.;
daughter Condra Scott of Laramie, Wyo.;
2 grandchildren, Jordan Johnson and Ciera Scott;3 sisters, Norma (Herb) Rogers of Salt Lake City; Terry (Lloyd) Croft of Idaho Falls, Idaho; Mary (Matt) Peckler of Rock Springs, Wyo.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 19, at 11 a.m. at the Uintah Stake Center (4080 South 2500 East).
Family and friends may call on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Thomson-Blackburn Vernal Mortuary and on Monday one hour prior to the services at the Chapel.

Burial will be in the Vernal Memorial Park under the direction of Thomson-Blackburn Vernal Mortuary.
