Biography
Martha Jane Johnson Bailey, 84, of N. McNutt Avenue, Princeton, departed this life peacefully early Tuesday, February 04, 2014 at her home. Born March 17, 1929, in Chelyan, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence Hunter Johnson and Elsie Mae Eller Johnson. Martha was a graduate of Princeton High School and a member of Fairview Christian Community Church near Princeton. She was a retired seamstress & machine operator for the Maidenform Corporation for more than 45 years and a member of the ILGWU. While her health permitted, she enjoyed working in her flower gardens, spending time with her family and most of all, traveling to the family cabin in Monroe County where she appreciated God's creation & listening to music. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Joseph Bailey, along with her brother, Russell Dean Johnson, special cousins; Jack & Bill Johnson, Kathleen Johnson Crouch, special uncle, Joe Eller and aunt, Evelyn Johnson Dobbins who helped to raise her. She will be lovingly remembered by her devoted and caring daughter, Janie Rebecca Bailey with who she made her home. Three grandchildren, J. Michelle Ellis & husband Jeff, Scott Thomas Howell & wife Donna & Justin Michael Howell & wife Edith Rose. Six great-grandchildren, Kendal and Easton Howell, Carter and Cayden Ellis, Steven McNeely and Joe Shepard. One-great-great-grandson, Christopher Cardwell. Special Sister in law, Betty Kiger. Two nephews, Larry & Dean. A cousin Elizabeth Akers and her daughter Cindi Bessent. Niece, Donna Bailey Sauers & her extended family of Wanda Law who cared deeply for her. Funeral services will be held 7:00 P.M. Friday, February 7, 2014 from the Burns Wornal Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton with Pastor Larry Dyer officiating. Following her service, the family will honor her request, she will be cremated and her inurnment will be held later in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton. Friends may visit with the family on Friday from 6:00 P.M. until the service hour. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to the Fairview Christian Community Church, 120 Black Oak Road, Princeton WV 24740. The Bailey family is being served by the Memorial Funeral Directory and Cremation Center on the Athens Road in Princeton.
