MONDOVI - Palma B. Christopherson, age 90, of Mondovi passed peacefully on Monday, Sept. 14, 2009, at Sacred Hospital with her loving family at her side.
She was born June 15, 1919, in town of Blair, Trempealeau County a daughter of Elmer and Inger (Gunderson) Johnson.
Palma was united in marriage to Paul E. Moe on March 17, 1945, in Madison. To this union four children were born. Paul preceded Palma in death Feb. 26, 1958.
On Dec. 26, 1960, Palma married Harold Moy at Zion Lutheran Church in Mondovi. To this union another ray of sunshine was added to Palma's family, Ramona. They later divorced.
In the summer of 1969, Palma exchanged vows with Harry Christopherson at Lyster Lutheran Church. Harry preceded Palma in death shortly after their marriage.
In the early days of Palma's first marriage to Paul, she spent her days raising her children and working on the family farm. Following Paul's passing, Palma found the desire and will to earn her driver's license.
She was employed many years at various cafes as a waitress and cook in the Mondovi community. Palma worked at the American Lutheran Home in Mondovi as a cook for 11 years before her retirement. Even after her retirement, Palma would volunteer her time at the nursing home.
When Palma's life dealt her the worst of blows, it was her resiliency, positive attitude and drive to raise her loving children that helped her persevere over her lifetime. Plain and simply put, her life revolved around the well-being and love for her entire family, not only her children but especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Palma will be sadly missed by her five loving children, Leon (Jackie) Moe of Cottage Grove, Minn., Nancy (Marcus) Qaurberg of Alma, Joy (Glenn) Houge of Roscoe, Ill., Neil (Cindy) Moe of Arcadia and Ramona "Mona" (Joe) Rondeau of Eau Claire; 15 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild on the way; two brothers, Raymond (LaVina) Johnson of Round Rock, Texas, and Merle (Janelle) Johnson of Eau Claire; four sisters, Inez Franzwa of Mondovi, Doris Elling of Apple Valley, Minn., Lillie Mae Shackley of Elcajon, Calif., and Irene (Gary) Isaacson of Eleva; also by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Besides her parents and husbands Paul and Harry, two brothers, Edwin and Leonard Johnson, one sister, Arlene Wulff, and one grandson, Bradley Houge, preceded Palma in death.
Funeral services for Palma will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, at Our Savior's United Methodist Church, Mondovi, with Pastor Dale Engen officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Lutheran Cemetery, Mondovi.
A time of visitation and support for Palma's family will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Poeschel-Talbot Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Mondovi and again on Thursday one hour prior to the services at the church.
Online memories and condolences may be sent to www.talbot-poeschel.com.
The family of Palma Christopherson would like to take this opportunity to extend a heartfelt and sincere thank-you to the entire staff of both Sacred Hospital and American Lutheran Home in Mondovi for the endless outpouring of compassion and concern during her stays.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Palma's name may be given to a charity of donor's preference.
