Two Residents of Ogen Killed In Idaho Auto Crash
Frank Rounds and Carl Johnson Dead; Detective Gale and Wm. J. Blackburn Injured In Accident 60 Miles from Challis.
Four residents of Ogden who departed Wednesday on what was to have been a happy fishing expedition into the wild Salmon river Country of Idaho were being brought back to Ogden today in a hearse and an ambulance. Two were killed and two were injured when their auto plunged 300 feet down from the road near Loon Creek summit, not far from Boyle dude ranch, their destination.
The dead:
Frank Randall Rounds, 68, proprietor of the Mecca cigar store at Kiesel and 25th Street.
Carl A. Johnson, employee at the Mecca.
The injured:
A. J. Gale, a city detective attahed to the Ogden police force, reported gravely hurt.
William J. Blackburn, proprietor of the real estate and insurance company which bears his name, seriously but not dangerously hurt.
The party left Ogden Wednesday for the Loon Creek district in the Salmon river drainage to fish in a spot they have frequented for several years past. They were headed for the Boyle Dude ranch when their machine went off one of the switchbacks on the other side of the Loon Creek summit from here.
After the accident, which happened about 2 p.m. yesterday, Blackburn walked several miles to the Boyle ranch to telephone for help. He and Gale were taken to Bonanza last night for treatment and the bodies of the two others were taken there this morning to await arrival of two ambulances which left Ogden early this morning. ...
