SPRINGFIELD - Carolyn Sue Johnson-Boyd, 56, departed from this life on Wednesday, May 13, 2009, at Capital Care Center.
Carolyn was born November 23, 1952, in Little Rock, Arkansas, the daughter of Dayton Johnson Sr. and Vernice Peevy.
Carolyn served her country in the United States Marine Corps, receiving her honorable discharge on January 21, 1974. She worked fifteen years as an Information Technologist for the Illinois Department of Public Health. She was a member of Second Timothy Baptist Church and served faithfully in the Voices of Praise Choir, Women's Chorus and the Women in Christ Missionary Circle.
She married John E. Boyd Sr. and he survives.
Cherishing her memories are her two children, Paul Johnson and John E. Boyd Jr., both of Springfield; two brothers, Donnie Ray Peevy of Fort Smith, Arkansas, and Dayton Johnson Jr. of Springfield; two sisters, Lisa Johnson of Springfield and Angelia "Angel" Johnson who is currently stationed in Iraq; three grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. followed by Celebration of Life services at noon on Thursday, May 21, 2009, at Second Timothy Baptist Church, 1122 E. Pine St., with Pastor Richard B. Maye officiating. Burial will be held at 2:00 p.m. at Camp Butler National Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Macon County Honor Guards.
