ABINGDON - Mary J. Bond, 87, of 608 W. Monmouth St. died at 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 2, 2004, at the Care Center of Abingdon. Born May 15, 1916, in Warren County to Malcolm and Hazel Baer Johnson, she married Frederick James Bond in 1942 in Miami. He died Oct. 2, 1956. She also was preceded in death by two sisters. Surviving are two sons, Fred Jr. (and Julie) of Hermosa, Calif., and Steve of Santa Ana, Calif.; one daughter, Barbara (and David) Moore of Alhambra, Calif.; and three grandchildren.
A graduate of Western Illinois Teachers College in Macomb, she taught third grade at Abingdon Grade School for 31 years, retiring in 1982. She was a member of Berwick Baptist Church. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel, where friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Eleanor Landon will officiate. Burial will be in Abingdon Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Abingdon Public Schools Foundation, Galesburg Rescue Mission or Abingdon United Methodist Church.
